FAQ

Farm Tours and Dinners

What time should I arrive?

Please arrive no earlier than 10 minutes before the tour is scheduled to begin.

Where do I go?

When you arrive at Starseed Ranch, please park in the grassy parking area in front of the fence and small farm store building. You will see a “Parking” sign. Farm tours meet in the parking lot and begin promptly at 11:00am and 4:45 pm, depending on the tour.

What should I wear?

We recommend wearing whatever is comfortable for light walking (i.e. comfortable walking shoes). There are mosquitoes depending on precipitation, so we recommend covering your arms and legs with clothing or with natural bug repellent (non-toxic please). Finally, our weather can change quickly so we recommend bringing an umbrella or raincoat, especially in the winter months.

How long is the tour?

The tour is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Are Farm Tours and Dinners suitable for children?

Yes! Children love the farm tour and being in the natural setting. Plus we have 2 friendly farm dogs that love kids. Also, most children that attend love the dinner, even the picky eaters.

What if I have dietary restrictions?

Please specify your dietary restrictions when prompted during the reservation process. You will be able to choose individual preferences for each member of your party.

If I have a small group, can I still sign up?

Yes, you can! For Farm to Table Dinners – if we do not reach our minimum number of guests we will cancel the dinner. If this happens, guests are notified at least 2 days prior to the event and provided a full refund.

Can you accommodate large groups?

Yes, we are happy to host large groups like schools, institutions or special events. Please contact us for more information.

I have multiple people paying for reservations in my group, but we all want to sit at the same table. How should we make sure we are seated together?

Please email us at starseedranchevents@gmail.com and provide us with the names on the reservations and a note that you’d all like to sit together.

I have a child under 2 but would like them to eat what is being served for dinner. How can I pay for a small portion?

Please email us. The cost is $25.

Can I purchase herbal tinctures, honey, and other products from the farm?

Yes, we will showcase products from our farm during the farm tour and/or after dinner.

Do you sell your farm’s produce on demand?

Although we will showcase products from our farm during the farm tour and/or after dinner, we do not sell produce on demand. You may pre-order a box of fresh produce, which is available on Wednesdays and Fridays only. Please order 2 days in advance to ensure that a member of our staff is available to harvest you the freshest produce possible! You can also visit us at the Hawi Farmers Market (every Saturday 8-1pm) at our nonprofit farm’s booth, HIP Agriculture.

Do you offer private Farm Tours & Farm to Table Dinners?

Yes, these are available upon request for parties of 6 or more.

What is your cancellation policy?

Farm to Table Dinners and Farm Tours are non-refundable, but you may move your reservation date once within one year of booking. Please allow us a minimum of 3 days notice or we may not be able to accommodate your request.

Farm Stays

Is a farm stay suitable for children?

Yes. The owners as well as many others who live on the land have children. Please note that we observe quiet hours from 9:30pm to 7:30am and there is no bathtub, only outdoor showers.

How do we order a produce box?

Please purchase your produce box when you reserve your stay through our website. If you decide you’d like to order a produce box after making your reservation, please email us. We will need 2 business days to prepare your box and have it ready for pickup.

How can we sign up for a Farm Tour or Farm to Table dinner?

If you would like to enjoy a Farm Tour or Farm to Table Dinner during your stay you can book these through our website.

Do the hales have their own bathrooms?

The Coconut Hale is the only hale with a private toilet. The other hales (Hula, Bali, Hana and Jungalow) share the indoor toilets at the Balinese Bathhouse. All of the hales, including the Coconut Hale, share 2 outdoor showers with hot water.

Do the hales have electricity?

Yes, all the hales have electricity and plenty of plugs for your electronic devices.

Does Starseed Ranch have WiFi?

WiFi is available only in the kitchen and dining area.

I am EMF-sensitive. Is WiFi always on? Does it reach the hales?

We are very aware of EMFs at Starseed Ranch. The only WiFi on Starseed is in the kitchen and dining area. The WiFi does not reach any of the hales.

Does Starseed provide daily housekeeping?

Our cleaning staff cleans the common areas daily (except Sundays), but we do not provide housekeeping services in the hales. Additionally, we provide 1 towel per person for the duration of your stay. These are to be used as bath towels and not taken to the beach. We recommend bringing your own beach towel as we do not provide these. Mahalo!

Are there insects around the hales?

Yes, we are an organic farm and only use natural insecticide to limit bugs around the hales, so there can be some insects seasonally. There are insects around the hales that sometimes get inside – especially if you leave the screen doors open. Insects are a sign of a healthy ecosystem. We recommend guests keep the screen slider doors closed on hales at all times.

What is the weather like at Starseed Ranch?

Our average daytime temperatures range from 70-85 degrees. Nights are slightly cooler in the 60’s, so we recommend a sweatshirt or light jacket. Dec-April is our rainy season, with May-November being drier months. As we’re an island in the middle of the Pacific, our weather can always change quite quickly. Bringing a rain jacket and extra layers is always a good idea!

Are there quiet hours?

Yes, we have quiet hours from 9:30pm – 7:30am. We ask that all visitors respect the peaceful retreat atmosphere on the land and remain mindful of noise levels. Sound travels very easily here.

Can I cook my own food while staying on the farm? Are there any daily meals offered?

As a guest at Starseed, you will have full access to our outdoor kitchen & dining space. This is a communal space shared with other guests at the ranch. We recommend writing your name on items placed in the refrigerator and ask that shared areas are kept clean and accessible for everyone. We do not currently offer a daily meal service on the farm. However, our Farm to Table dinner is offered weekly on Thursday evenings. These events can sometimes sell out and should be booked in advance through our website. We also offer private Farm to Table dining experiences for parties of 6 or more upon request.

What about drinking water?

As an off-grid farm, we are blessed with extremely pure triple-filtered well water. All of the sinks in the kitchen & bathroom are potable water, so you can fill your reusable water bottles there. PLEASE DO NOT DRINK FROM THE HOSES OR AGRICULTURAL SPIGOTS ON THE FARM.

Where do you recommend we get groceries? Are there places to dine out nearby? What are the best beaches near you? What other recommendations do you have while we are staying at Starseed?
