Through the gate to Starseed, under the monkey pod tree canopy

Overview

Starseed Ranch is located in the heart of the Niuli’i ahupua’a on the northern coast of the Big Island. We are a short 15-minute drive from historic Hawi Town, at the ‘end of the road’ near Pololu Valley. Our 26-acre estate is completely off-grid, run by hydro-electric and solar systems. Throughout the beautifully landscaped grounds, you will find balinese-style buildings and covered walkways, group meeting spaces and a diverse tropical orchard and farm. We offer several lodging options from private cabins to tent camping, and can accommodate up to 25 overnight guests (possibly more with camping options). Day use activities can expand up to 150 guests. The center of the ranch features hales (cabins), kitchen & dining area, a yoga/movement studio and a bathhouse.  Nearby there is an outdoor fire pit with beautiful flagstone and logs for seating. Tucked back in the orchard you will find the 'spirit hut', a open air balinese-style gazebo that is used for ceremony and group gatherings. Event rentals have access to these facilities during their stay.

Kitchen and Dining Area

The Starseed Kitchen serves as a nucleus of activity on the ranch, a gathering place within short walking distance from lodging and other buildings. The kitchen and dining areas are connected in a beautiful open air design, surrounded by timber-framed walkways and tropical gardens. Originally built to utilize salvaged building materials, the effect of reclaimed hardwoods, bamboo and woven hala mat is stunning. The octagon shaped  kitchen features custom woodwork and awning windows, with one side opening directly into the dining area. Stainless steel appliances include a 6-burner Viking stove, full-size double refrigerator and dishwasher. There are two sinks and a central hardwood island. Surrounding cabinets hold everything you need to make delicious gourmet meals - pots and pans, cast iron skillets, toaster, coffeemaker, electric kettle, citrus juicer, Vitamix blender, dishes and utensils, and a raised basket perfect for storing farm fresh goodies. The connected dining area features a large, round hardwood table with lazy susan that seats up to 15 guests (additional seating is available) with open air views looking out over the garden and orchard. The kitchen is a communal space for guests to make their own meals and is also available for special events that want to bring in a private chef or catering services.

Yoga and Movement Studio

Lovingly referred to as the "Chi Deck", this space is one of the most beautiful on the property  and  is often used for meditation, yoga and movement practice.  The hardwood floors and inset rock wall give the space a cozy and earthy feeling. Lots of windows and sliding glass doors fill the room with natural light. The 30' x 6' covered lanai overlooks the gulch and stream below, making the building feel as though it is floating in the trees. You can open up the screened sliding doors to hear the stream rushing by and feel gentle breezes blowing in from the ocean. This room is multi-purpose and can be used for classroom space, ceremony, performances and other group gatherings. Overnight guests are welcome to use the space for practice when there is not an event or class in session.
